BIG BOOKS
Take a look at some of our fabulous big books!
In RE this year, we have implemented new books to the classroom practice called 'BIG BOOKS' these are large A3 books which contain the children's' learning throughout the units. It gives a chance to see what pupils think, an insight into class discussions and showcases some of their work in class (written, drama-based or practical group work). The children have enjoyed having ownership of this book, they are responsible for creating its pages, using their class learning, and enjoy having it in the classroom to look back upon and reflect.
Learning Opportunities in Religious Education
Our children are always engaged in our Religious Education lessons, you can see the children take part in acting, group work, active learning, outdoor learning, paired discussion and whole class discussion. The children in this lesson have been looking at the soul, thinking about how different organised worldviews have their own viwes on the soul and whether or not we have one, we made notes around the different views and then looked at how these are simialr and different. The chidlren in Maple class also were able to look at different icon pictures and think about how these are realted to the 'soul'.
Religious Education Visits
In Upper Key Stage two, the children have enjoyed visiting the Mosque, they had to wear long sleeves and a head covering for respect and they were required to wash their hands on entry and remove their shoes. The children were greeted by a Muslim gentlemen who taught them all about the religion of Islam. They were fascinated by the timings of prayer, the necessity to be clean and the methods of prayer. The children practiced prayer positions and began to think about where they should face and why. The children were able to recognise how this was different to the religious buildings they had previously visited in LKS2 and KS1 and how the Muslim people pray in different ways. The children had a wonderful time, and gained knowedge and understadning and expereinces that cannot be taught within thr classrooom.
Foundation Stage have eben lucky enough to visit two local churches. All Saints and St Thomas. The children enjoyed learning about christenings, weddings and other religious ceremonies as well as the workings of the church and what people do there. They had an amazing experience that couldnt be achieved from inside school.
