King Kong
In Spring 1, UKS2 studied King Kong as their key driver text. As part of this learning, the children completed various smaller tasks that contributed to a longer dilemma narrative piece. The class completed multiple drama opportunities, including re-enacting the scene where King Kong takes Ann! The class were extremely enthusiastic about this book and completed some excellent written pieces.
Multiplication and Division
The class have explored multiplication and division to deepen their understanding and develop different methods for calculating answers. Through practicing both formal written methods and mental strategies, they have worked on improving fluency and accuracy. Building on their prior knowledge, they have also challenged themselves by using the inverse operation to check their answers, reinforcing their understanding and boosting their confidence in problem-solving.
Fractions
This term we have spent time exploring fractions, particularly converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. The children have worked hard to use their times table knowledge to help them to be successful in doing this mentally.
M
Lifecycles and Reproduction
The children explored the reproductive organs of plants, by dissecting and labelling the petals, stamens, pistils, and seeds of three different flowers. By carefully identifying and discussing the function of each part, students gained valuable insight into how plants can reproduce and grow.
Forces and Motion
As part of the learning around Forces and Motion, the class set up an investigation using different materials to find out which would be best for a pair of goalie gloves. The children tested sandpaper, cotton wool, denim and foam. They aslo investigated air resistance and water resitance, by creating their own missiles out of playdoh and dropping them into bottles filled with water to measure the speed at which they sink.
Earth and Space
To begin our new topic of Earth and Space, the class took part in an interactive VR workshop. They went on various expeditions to different planets to find out different pieces of information, such as the weather and how long a day lasts in comparison to Earth. The children loved this experience, along with the staff!
Population
The class completed a unit of learning on 'Why does population change?' As part of this, they researched what push and pull factors affect where and why people choose to live. They also found out about the effects on the birth and death rate and why these change frequently.
Clay
The class were lucky enough to take part in a clay workshop where they made a range of clay pots inspired by their Ancient Greek topic. They learnt how to layer their pots using a rolling technique, making sure their measurements were consistent. Once their 3D pot had been sculpted, the children used a range of tools to craft patterns and markings in the style of Ancient Greek pottery.
Photo Opportunity
For this unit of work, the class explored creative photographic techniques, created new images through photomontage, learnt how to use digital photography to support with art design, and then enhanced their skills in composition and editing.
Holi
The children listened to a variety of different classical music and explorerd how music can be experienced visually by associating sounds and rhythms with different colours.

Bletchley Park and the History of Computers
During computing, the class learnt about Bletchley Park and its role in WW1. We looked at different types of codes, tried to hack codes both on paper and using Scratch. They spent time researching the evolution of computers and the key figures in their advancement, before presenting this information to the rest of the class.
