Using a Thesaurus
The children have really enjoyed learning about how we can use a thesaurus and improve our vocabulary choices, they can search for the word using alphabetical ordering skills and find an appropriate synonym. Maple class have made some amazing improvements to their river poems - check out below for our river poem online book!
Amazing Atlas Work!
The chidlren have been using the index of the atlas to hep them locate the rivers around the world, we have learnt how to use a key and label our diagrams so we know which rivers we have found.
Remarkable River Recognition
This week the children have been learning about the different courses of the river, the upper course, middle course and lower course. They were able to label the parts that they could find in each secion of the river journey and then worked together in teams to create there very own river! They had amazing teamwork as well as knowledge. Spectacular!
How to work in a team
The children have been working hard to establish class and cohort rules and responsibilites. We have been thinking of how we can be an effective team and ensure that we work together to get the most out of our learning. The children have thought about teamwork and how we can be the most effective team. They made posters to help childrne learn how to be the best team and they worked in teams to make shapes of letters on the playground. Can you figure out what they are spelling out in the video below?
On Monday 4th November, the children in Maple class had a clay workshop and learnt how to make their very own canopic jars. We learnt that canopic jars are special to the Egyptians because they hold the organs of a dead person to ensure they are protected for the after life. We made them by flattening a base out of clay, then rolling the clay into several long sausage shapes and coiling them round into layers. We then smoothed the sides and created a lid. We made the lids into different designs of animals as the different organs were guarded by different animals. We then left them out to dry before we could paint them and decorate.
River Rhythms
In today’s lesson, the children worked in their groups to refine and improve their ostinatos. They changed the tempo and dynamics of their piece, added vocal ostinatos and changed the number of layers within each section. At the end of the lesson, they were able to perform their composed piece for everyone to enjoy!
Medolious Moldau Madness
The children today have been learning abut beats. children identified the key elements of a piece of classical music called ‘The Moldau’. They worked in groups to recognise the mood, tempo, texture and dynamics of a section of the music and justified their opinions by explaining their ideas to the class.
Forest School Teamwork
The chidlren have really enjoyed forest school today. They have been playign lots of games aimed at makign them work together as a class. They had to gert into groups quickly, use their voices to organise a group and also look after themselves to win. They learnt the importance of working differently dependent on if you are alone or working in pairs or large groups. They then had a memory test and looked at the hieroglyphics of Ancient Egypt. The children were really good at working together to memorise and one group were especially good as they split the hieroglyphs and therefore learnt just a few each, this technique was praised by the class. A really fun session with lots of great games to get us all working together.
Creative Custom Cannons
The children have enjoyed learning about rhythm, we are continuing to build our teamwork skills and working together to create a cannon of motion to create a dance. The Year 3's have really enjoyed making these and thought of lots of different moves that they might be able to use in a flow of a dance like a river. WELL DONE MAPLE!
Soul Searching!
This week we have learning about different beliefs about the soul. We have investigated the beliefs of organised worldviews as a whole, the views of individuals from each of these worldviews and then recorded our own beliefs about the soul. The children enjoyed making videos of their discoveries and have recorded their thoughts using technology! CHeck out the padlet responses and some of our videos below!
