Class 3/4

Welcome to our class page.

The teachers in Class 3/4 are Mrs Tonks and Mrs Oakland. We also have Mrs Yeo and Mrs Hunter who work with us in our class and help us everyday. Also, Mrs Croft supports us during some of our work.

Our main topic for the Summer term is called 'The Saxons and Vikings'. We will be looking at where the Vikings came from and why they invaded Britain. We will identify the key significant characters from History. We will look at the settlement of the Vikings, their homes, daily life, clothes, food, gods and goddesses and the ways they entertained themselves. We will analyse their impact on Britain today.

During our Science lessons we will be investigating teeth and our digestive system and living environments.

Our Art/DT work will be based on our topic work. We will be creating lots of Viking themed work such as longships and Viking food!

Our learning in Music is based around singing with Mrs Moss.

In our Computing sessions we will be learning how to send and receive email and we will be looking at staying safe online.

In French we will be learning how to describe the weather, our families and class instructions.

Our RE topic is called 'How do we remember?' We will also investigate Spring festivals.

PE

This half term we have an outdoor PE session with a company who will train our cricket skills on a Monday. Please make sure the children have their kit in school with suitable trainers. If your child has earrings, please provide tape to cover them from home.

We also have PE for our Year 3s on a Thursday too whilst the Year 4 children go swimming. Please ensure your child has both their indoor and outdoor kits with appropriate trainers for PE on this day and their swimming kit if they are in Year 4.

Spellings

Spellings are given out on Thursday and need to be learnt for the following Thursday. The children will receive 10 'Spelling Sensations' words to learn each week alongside their normal word lists. They will be tested on 5 mystery words from the 'Spelling Sensations' list. There are prizes up for grabs for the children who score 5/5 for any 3 weeks throughout the term!

Water Bottles

Please make sure children bring their water bottles to school everyday.

Homework and Reading.

Homework will be given out on Thursdays to be completed by the following Tuesday. Please check your child's homework book/folder for more information.

Also can you please try to listen to your child read at least 3 times a week. We have a reading rocket in class as a reward for reading at home. Every week your child reads at least 3 times, they will move up the stars. When they reach the top they will receive a prize from the box!

We are very much looking forward to working with both parents and children this year. If you have any queries do not hesitate to pop in and see us! Please keep an eye on this page as we will update it regularly with photos of the children at work!
